Open Mic #12: Impact Investing With Faith Organizations

Communities of faith have long been impact investing pioneers, with principles derived from faith traditions and communities of practice having paved the way for socially responsible investing. Many faith communities have made socially responsible investing their goal in order to steer clear of investments that conflict with their values. And many are taking the next step of pursuing deep impact through their investments. How do foundations learn from and share a variety of capital types with faith communities and their congregational assets? Join this Open Mic to explore the roles that faith leaders can play: as investors, co-investors, intermediaries, investees and more. The conversation will focus on place-based impact investing ecosystems, the rich history and experience of faith investors, and an example of investment that creates affordable housing opportunities. This Open Mic is followed by a special 1-hour networking session for MIE members! Log in to view details and a self-sign up sheet.

Open Mics are lightly structured, webcam-enabled calls for MIE members to come together and discuss ideas and opportunities to create impact. Intended to be flexible, Open Mics embody the goal of mobilizing with urgency, employing a simple concept:
  • What ideas, projects, or resources exist within the MIE community — and how can we help each other respond to urgent crises?
  • How can we work quickly to bring together a variety of voices, investment opportunities, and best practices in an action-oriented conversation?
Conversation Leads
  • Rev Dr. Sidney Williams, Crossing Capital Group
  • Elizabeth Garlow, New Practice Lab and New America
  • Robert Foster, San Diego Grantmakers
  • Umar Moghul, Roberts, Moghul & Partners

MIE members, log in to access dial-in information and a self RSVP sheet for the Open Mic. Contact Melanie Audette at [email protected] with questions.
