Open Mic: Forest Resiliency: Impact Investing Tools That Can Save the Planet
This year has seen the most catastrophic wildfires on record throughout the West, with devastating impacts on peoples lives, livelihoods, our water supply, and state climate goals. And the impact of wildfires and poor land use planning has hit vulnerable communities hardest. The good news? There are proven models for making communities and ecosystems more resilient to wildfires, climate change, and disease - though work is not yet happening at the scale needed.
Join us to hear how a forester and a brand-building activist are coming together with a world class data engineer to build a platform that might just save the planet. We’ll discuss how foundations, state government, individuals and family offices are using innovative financing tools such as Program-Related Investments, climate resilience bonds, and a variety of complementary efforts to address today’s urgent environmental challenges. As part of this Open Mic, participants will also have an opportunity to express interest in a cohort to understand the mechanics of investing in forest resiliency.
Open Mics are lightly structured, webcam-enabled calls for MIE members to come together and discuss ideas and opportunities to create impact. Intended to be flexible, Open Mics embody the goal of mobilizing with urgency, employing a simple concept:
