How a Venture Philanthropy Fund Works on K-12

The NewSchools Venture Fund, established in 1988, is a venture capital fund focusing on improving the public education system. The fund has reached a major milestone: $250 million invested in 150 education entrepreneurs who have established 450 schools, serving over 171,000 students.

NewSchools says these projects have made real impact, having affected more than 60 million students and their teachers both in the US and abroad. Its funders include Walton Family Foundation, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Carnegie Corporation of New York, the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation, among others.
