Scaling Solutions Toward Shifting Systems: Approaches for Impact, Approaches and Learning

How can funders create lasting, systemic change for the world’s most pressing issues? To help answer that question, the Scaling Solutions toward Shifting Systems initiative was launched in 2016 as an inquiry: Can funders be encouraged to work more collaboratively to place longer term, adaptive resources to fund and accelerate scalable solutions targeting systemic changes around pressing global issues? Since then, Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, Skoll Foundation, Ford Foundation, Porticus and Draper Richards Kaplan Foundation, have examined when, how, and why certain solutions were able to grow and achieve the system-level shifts that were anticipated.

This follow up to the first report in 2017 examines how funders can streamline processes and collaborate more effectively to achieve systems change. With this report, the authors share examples of how the philanthropy sector can more effectively support the potential of grantees.
