When Impact Investing Is All About the People

Jesse Fink, Founding Trustee of The Fink Family Foundation, is the latest foundation leader to pen an article in our SSIR series Mission Possible. As a small but nimble family-run organization, Fink has to make use of all the resources at their disposal to generate impact. Human and social capital often are as critical as financial capital. As they evolve to a 21st century model of philanthropy, millennials – family members, fellows, and interns – are an important part of the foundation’s arsenal. Fink’s leadership is considering more diverse points of view as they align their portfolio with their programmatic mission, and broaden their view of environmental impact. As a result, the foundation is examining the risks and hindrances internally as well as in the field of impact investing at large. Moving forward they plan to talk openly and authentically about these issues to improve their own impact and raise the bar for the rest of the field.
